Adornments at Art Fusion 2009

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

We’re going to be a part of Art Fusion 2009 at the Factory! This is a big art show held every year on Artists Row at the Factory. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Factory. It really was an old oven manufacturing plant that has been turned into an indoor mall. It’s full of shops, restaurants, art studios, galleries and offices on Franklin Road and Liberty Pike in Franklin, TN. That’s so you can find it next week when you come for the big show.

Adornments welcomes new artist: Steamy Raimon!

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Steamy Raimon comes to us from Las Vegas and ads a new element to our gallery: Viking-style drinking horns!  Each one-of-a-kind horn is hand-carved and painted with traditional Norse writing and symbols to give it an authentic Viking feel.  Each horn is sealed with wax to make it a functional drinking horn as well as a beautiful work of art!

Steamy Raimon

Steamy Raimon

This piece is made from natural bull horn, imported from Northern Europe, and fitted with a removable leather strap with copper fittings for easy carrying.  This drinking horn is completely functional, having been sealed with beeswax to enable it to carry large quantities of mead, beer and/or wine.  The carvings, featuring The Midgard Serpent crossing itself in a traditional knot fashion and the words “Drink with the Gods” in both English and Elder Futhark Runes (old Norse) are hand carved and highlighted with red oil paint.  The Midgard Serpent in Norse mythology is a huge serpent under the sea that surrounds the entire Earth and is often depicted as a dragon on the bows of Viking ships.  This horn is a fine collector’s item or gift for the lover of Scandinavian heritage and lore (information provided by Steamy Raimon).

This drinking horn, also one-of-a-kind, is hand-carved and painted on natural ram’s horn.  The carvings depict Elder Futhark (old Norse) runes and symbols of dedication to the Norse gods Odin and Tyr.  A sealing of beeswax makes this horn capable of carrying a significant quantity of liguid (traditionally mead, beer or wine) and is similar to those historically used by Norse shamans for ceremonies and rituals (Information provided by Steamy Raimon).

Steamy Raimon accepts commissions for his horns, appropriate for occasions as varied as historical reinactment occasions and marital drinking vessels as well as being excellent collector’s items for Scandinavian history enthusiasts.

Please join us in welcoming Steamy Raimon to Adornments!

NCS Renaissance Fair!

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

A while back we were invited to participate in a Ren. Fair at the Nashville Christian School, held in conjunction with their school play, “Much Ado About Nothing.” This is the first year that the school put together such a to-do, and it sounds like it’s likely to become a yearly event. We were eager to join- mostly because we heard there would be turkey legs!!

And there were..

Mmm... Turkey leg! Who wouldn't go to a Ren Fair for that!!

Take a look at our amazing sign! :) That’s right, we’re wearing costumes! Well…pseudo-costumes (they had wrist watches back then, right?)…

Adornments Sign! yes, we used blue tape to hang it..

We were asked to have a semi-working booth so that it would be somewhat educational as well. So Lucinda brought her loom and demonstrated weaving (of course…Laura and I were the mules for this venture…)

Look at all that bling!

Of course, the biggest problem of the day was the weather… It was rather windy which caused all of our pretties to keep being blown over. So I spent my time (when not eating funnel cakes and roasted corn!) putting every thing back upright.

It's perfect!

It's perfect!

At least, until the rain called an end to the day. In all though, many funnel cakes were had and oohs and aahs abounded! Thanks to NCS for having us!!

And a good time was had by all!

Studio/Retail Space for Local Artists/Craft Artists

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Adornments is looking to expand into The Loft at the Factory at Franklin

The Loft

The Loft

a lofted space off of the common area in the main building.

View from The Loft

View from The Loft

This space can be seen from the ground floor from many restaurants and shops and is directly across from the Southgate Gallery.  Our goal is to provide artists and craft artists with studio and retail space; providing the community with the opportunity to see artists at work and purchase artisan goods as well as a place for artists to work and sell their creations. We do want any artists who take a space there to actually be there regularly (not necessarily every day, but several days a week). In exchange for rent (price is based on the size of the studio space (5×5-10×10) that is desired ranging from $320 to $400 per month or more), we will provide the artists with the following:

1. Studio Space (artists will have access to their studio space 24 hours a day)

2. Advertisement in various publications (Tennessean, VIP Magazine, etc)

3. Advertisement on our website (Adornments-Online.net)

4. Retail opportunity- use of our credit card machine at no cost to the artist. (i.e. we will not take a commission for works that are sold by the artist whether the artist is present at the time of sale or not) The Loft will be open for business during regular store hours (most likely: Tuesday – Thursday 10am-5pm and Friday/Saturday 10am-6pm) and an Adornments staff member will be present to process any credit sales during those times (again at no cost to the artist).

In order to make this venture possible, we need at least four artists to commit to taking studio space there within the next month. If you are interested, please e-mail AdornmentsOnline@gmail.com with The Loft in the subject heading. Tell us your medium, how much space you think you need, when you would want to move in and start working, and please include a couple pictures of your work if you can. We do want there to be a variety of different styles and media so our selections will be based on ability of the artist to create on site, quality of work and diversity of the space (i.e. we won’t pick all painters or all weavers).

We look forward to hearing from you!
