Completion of Lucinda's Quest

Actually the quest was completed a week before Laura’s wedding when ‘The Dress’ was delivered by Olia Zavozina. It’s gorgeous! Of course, there was no point in posting all of this until you could see for yourselves my final choice. The dress was perfect. I received rave reviews from family and friends. I felt good and both Laura and I were happy with my final look. Enough talk you say…..I agree. Here are the pictures taken at the big event. In case you don’t recognise me, I’m the lady in dark silver.

Olia even made a shawl for me for a little bit of coverage to deal with the evening chill. Of course it was cold and rainy that night. We didn’t care. Good food, good music and lots of good company. What could be better? Oh, you’ve got to see the necklace Laura made for me. Isn’t it gorgeous? You know you’ve done well when you get a note like this one on your gift.

And yes, I was teary eyed when I read this….so I think the blurred edges are appropriate. Thank you so much Zach and Jody Gray for all of the beautiful photographs.

Flowers, flowers everywhere!

So, I really didn’t have much in the way of a vision for the wedding flowers (Jim didn’t care at all. Surprise, I know! ) So, we needed some guidance. We started out trying to find out what flowers we like (and more importantly what they’re called so that we could tell a florist. “Umm… the red ones that are kinda pointy with the petals” just really isn’t helpful).

I knew I wanted dark reds and blacks (there are actually a surprising number of black flowers! Who knew?), and whites, but I didn’t want a the whole pom-pom look or just a big bunch of roses. Roses are nice, but they really aren’t that exciting for the most part. Here are some images that I found that really started the ball rolling in the right direction!

Simple, stunning, but a little too dark (I want the red!) and I was seriously starting to dig asymmetry, but the feathers were a new idea altogether. So, in looking for reds, these are the flowers that caught my eye:

Hmmm...red orchids... I'm seeing a trend!

So, thus armed, we met with the fun and talented Chase Rivers of Eye Design Floral. His website shows a wide variety of flowers, colors and styles and he came highly recommended by Amy, my wedding coordinator (if you can’t trust your coordinator, who can you trust?), so we were excited (Ok, Jim still didn’t really care, but he went anyway and even participated a bit)! Chase showed us a lot of flowers to get a feel for what we like and I showed him the pics that I’d found (orchids…yup!) and he added a few that are now on my list of favorites making me so much more diverse in my flower tastes (oooo… so much more cosmopolitan!)

Aren’t they gorgeous?! The feathers even lead to the cake design (you’ll have to wait for the cake post for more on that!) so all around a useful and easy venture. I’m still not sure what it’s all going to look like, but the flowers are all lovely, so I’m sure it’ll turn out well. Thanks Chase!

Get it done right!

So, a few weeks ago, Jim and I had an unwelcome surprise: Aaron Mayo, the man who was helping us plan our wedding at one Eleven, has left the company. We wish Aaron the best of luck and know that he will do well wherever he goes, but where, exactly did that leave us? Luckily, we know just the person to step in and fill the breech: Amy Parman with Williamson County Weddings!

Amy was amazing when she helped us with Alexis’ wedding last year, so we knew right from the start that she would be easy to work with and do everything she could to help us get the wedding we want. When you sign on with Williamson County Weddings and their experienced team of planners, you are guaranteeing yourself not only a beautiful wedding, but also a stress-free (as much as possible) wedding day. She was there from start to finish with Alexis, and we know she’ll be there for us as well, doing what she can to get the vendors we need at a great price!

Adornments Attends an Event at CJ's

Adornments At CJ's

On a blustery Sunday afternoon, Adornments headed over to CJ’s Off The Square to see what’s new! It turns out, there’s a lot that’s new at CJ’s. Everything from Cakes to Flowers to Invitations, there was something there to see at this well-attended event. They even offered valet parking and red carpet treatment by !

Offerings include anything from chicken salad on croissants with fresh fruits and cheese (don’t worry, dessert is included too!) to roasted chicken with all the trimmings! All you need to keep you and your wedding party going on the big day!

A Successful Adornments Wedding- Us!

Abdul and Alexis' Wedding Feature on Ashley's Bride Guide

As many of you know, we got started down the path of wedding work when we discovered the addictive power of planning my (Alexis) wedding late last year. Well, for those of you wondering just how that first trial went, our wedding is currently being featured on two wedding blogs!! Ashley of Ashley’s Bride Guide as well as Amy from Williamson County Weddings and CJs off the Square both wrote articles on our wedding this week (I know- how loved are we?!)! So, once again thanks to everyone who chipped in to make our wedding so great! I’m sure that Laura’s upcoming wedding will be even more of a triumph! More Venues!

The search for the perfect wedding venue continues- I know, we’re slow. This last week we visited a few more locations that were fairly promising.

The first was One Eleven.

One Eleven

This is a relatively new venue on Broadway downtown in Nashville. It’s an incredibly versatile site which has done mostly corporate events thus far (They’re having their first wedding in May 2009). What’s great about this space is, well, the view!

The View

Lots of great downtown city scape to look at and the ability to move in or out of doors depending on the weather. The observation deck is completely uncovered (but can be tented) allowing guests to mingle in the open air and look out over the city. The Patio is roofed, but one side is open to the air as well (again, this can be covered should the weather prove inclement) and there is plenty of room for either dancing or setting up tables for eating and chatting.

Sandwiched between the observation deck and the patio is the penthouse- this is only completely closed room in this venue- it is completely walled with large glass windows to allow the indoor people a clear view of everything going on in either outdoor location and there are lots of glass doors that could be left open to provide easy traffic flow (this would however ruin the air conditioning! ).

What was especially nice (aside from the space itself) was how calm and welcoming the Aaron Mayo was when he showed us the space. He was completely open to doing anything we could think of and welcomed any new ideas we had on how best to use the space. It was so pleasant to have someone who was open to anything and willing to help as much or as little as we wanted. Thanks Aaron!

That was our favorite of the day!

Currently our favorites are:

The aVenue (we still love the warm wood of that space!) and One Eleven.

Thoughts? We’re looking for ideas, so any suggestions would be useful! We’re really hoping to come to a final decision within the next week or so. And on Monday- the quest for the dress begins…
